Our History

Spotlight  on Dance seeks to enhance the development of our students throughout  their entire educational experience. Our staff is made up of a group of  talented and creative professionals, who are passionate about providing  the best dance instruction in South Plainfield. We offer the tools and  support necessary for our students to reach their full potential. Do you  want to learn at our Dance School? Get in touch with us today.

Spotlight  on Dance (SOD) began in a small storefront on South Plainfield Avenue  in South Plainfield, NJ in 1990. Carolyn Stefanchik opened and has  successfully grown the dance studio since 1990. As of June 2015, Shannon  Battiste and Gina Vohden are the proud owners of Spotlight on Dance and  continue to enhance and enrich dance experiences and oppurtunities for  the children of South Plainfield and surrounding towns.

SOD is  proud of the literally thousands of Central Jersey youth that have  passed through our doors. Our alumni have gone on to professional  performing careers as well as attaining dance and education degrees from  distinguished universities.

> SOD has two rooms with  floating hardwood floors, ample parking and a Waiting Room with 1-way  windows for parents to observe class.
> Our tuition and family  plans are among the most affordable in New Jersey. Student tuition is  due in quarterly installments and full year prepayments are also  available at a discounted rate.
> Classes begin in September and  run through Memorial Day which allows families to get an early " jump"  on summer activities!  A full range of classes are also offered during  the Summer Fun Session.
> Most students choose to perform in the  Annual Spring Student Recital which traditionally runs 2 hours in length  with reserved seat tickets affordably priced.
> Our  Teacher/Student ratio is low to create an atmosphere where dancers  receive maximum attention and individualized correction.

Young  dancers are grouped by age to offer them the most specific instruction  based on where they are developmentally and socially.  We offer separate  classes for 3 year olds, 4 year olds, Kindergarteners and First Graders  because we know each specific age group is quite different in so far as  what we can expect them to do and how long they can maintain their  focus.  As students mature, they are grouped in classes based on their  ability.
