Our History

The Little Dolphins Swim Academy was conceived and born out of a  partnership between Coach Chuck Warner and the Berkeley Swim School  (BSS), a Division of the Berkeley Aquatic Club (BAC).

In 2010, Coach Chuck Warner left his 13 year stint as Head Coach of  the Rutgers University Swimming and Diving program. He then combined his  own experience of 37 years of full time instruction in swimming with  that of BAC owned by Coach Jim Wood, and the BSS directed by Coach  Towney Brewster. BAC had also been thriving for about 30 years with a  Swim School that often boasts close to 1000 students per week in  Berkeley Heights.

The leadership of LDSA is characterized by a passion for excellence  and commitment to integrity in business. Coach Warner, is past president  of the American Swimming Coaches Association and currently is Treasurer  and Executive Board Member for the International Swimming Hall of Fame.  He has been a three-time USA National Coach, coached seven National Y  Championship Teams and has been the personal coach of fifteen USA  National Team Members including two Olympic Gold Medal winners. Coach  Jim Wood, as past president of USA Swimming as well as US Aquatic  Sports, having spent years contributing to the sport of swimming in the  USA and around the world.

By combining knowledge and resources LDSA and BAC shares ideas,  trains staff and can offer appropriate coaches a full work experience in  aquatics.

Coach Warner’s daughter Annie learned to swim at the Berkeley Swim School and is now an instructor at LDSA.
